
In primitive times, marriages (esp. in India known as Shaadi)
were considered a pious ritual. Hindu marriages would portray Bride and
Groom as God and Goddess and would need them to sit in front of Fire
and perform all the rites with full devotion and dedication. Fire being a
symbol of piousness and incarnation of Hindu God is considered the
purest and both bride and groom need to take oath in front of fire.
